September 6, 2010 UHLSPORT HELLENIC LEAGUE CLUB NEWS Pegasus Juniors 3 Wokingham & Emmbrook 2 UHLSPORT Hellenic Football League - Premier Division - Saturday 4th September, 2010 - Match Report Chris Wells Pegasus Juniors entertained newly promoted side Wokingham & Emmbrook in a Premier Division fixture in the UHLSPORT Hellenic Football League gaining their first points of the season with a creditable victory at Old School Lane, Hereford. The visitors got off to a flying start scoring inside two minutes and doubled the advantage shortly before the half time break. Four minutes after the resumption the home side reduced the deficit then secured the result with two goals in a four minute spell with under ten minutes remaining. The former Division One East team stunned the home side in the second minute of the match, Pegasus lost possession on the left side of midfield, the Satsumas broke quickly as the ball was played forward with a hint of offside to the experienced Adam Cornell who raced into the eighteen yard area before driving the ball past Liam Brewer.
The Peggy Boys were visibly shocked by the early goal and struggled to find any rhythm in their play, however, they were visibly lifted when a throw in from Matt Maturi found Chris Mortlock near the penalty spot. The captain lost his marker and lashed a shot against the outside of the gaol post. With ten minutes of the first half remaining the home side were given a warning of the tenacity of the Satsumas when Shane Cooper-Clark hit the post with a shot from ten yards and Chris Ternouth threw himself to block the rebound from the same player. After forty two minutes the visitors increased their lead, Danny Horscroft took the ball around Mark Smith before laying a pass to Cooper-Clark who scored from close range to send the visitors into the break leading 2-0.
In the forty ninth minute a Maturi free kick from wide on the left, was spectacularly headed home by Mark Smith diving full length between defenders leaving goalkeeper Stuart Harris stranded. The striking combination of Mortlock and Tom Boyle was starting to signs of a promising partnership and Mortlock forced the visitors to concede a penalty after he was tackled from behind by Shaun Wanklyn. The striker converted the penalty kick to level the scores. Chris scored his first Hellenic League goal, also a penalty on his birthday against Milton United in 2004. The home side were obviously buoyant after the fightnack and continued taking the game to the opposition, it came as little surprise when The Peggy Boys took the lead in the eighty third minute of the game. Andy Mowen played the ball into the path of Boyle who was breaking down the right flank, he returned the favour to his strike partner who beat his marker before cracking the ball past the left hand of Harris. A brace for the birthday boy was a birthday present to himself and the whole team. The promoted side piled on the pressure for the remainder of the game but, the resilient defence marshalled by Dan Price playing his first Hellenic game of the season and his defensive partner Smith held out until the final whistle. At times it was all hands on deck to repel the determined visiting attack but, the home side showed a tenacity and determination that has been missing in recent weeks. This was a terrific fight back by the Redmen who gained their first victory of the season and a fitting finale for retiring manager Steve Griffiths.

FA VASE sponsored by Carlsberg – 1st Round Qualifying Round Up - In the all-Hellenic cup ties, Kidlington overwhelmed One WEST visitors Malmesbury Victoria by 5-0. Leading the charge for Kiddy were Lewis Gabbidon with two, Mark Baker, Mark Flanagan, Chris Wheedon and Tom Woodbridge. Thame United came through by the odd goal in three against Premier counterparts Slimbridge. Tom Hoskins and Aaron Rogers supplied the goals for Thame, with Dan Chandler replying for the Swans. In ties against Toolstation Western League opposition Cheltenham Saracens lost to Hallen by the odd goal in three. Jamie Hammond scored on the half time whistle for the Sara’s but this was not enough in the final analysis. Highworth Town scored in the first minute against Bradford Town but conceded twice before half time. Despite besieging the visitor’s goalmouth the Worthians were unable to get the elusive equalizer. Old Woodstock Town were comfortable winners over Shrewton United by 3-1 thanks to efforts from Luke Ingram and Ryan Brooks with a pair. Bicester Town faced Cadbury Heath and went down by the odd goal in three. Lennie Sackey’s last minute effort was not enough to affect the outcome of the game. Ardley United were on the road at Westbury United and went through to the next round thanks to efforts from Murray Nicholl, Adam Garner and Lewis Travers. Ascot United won their tie over Staines Lammas, who top the Cherry Red Combined Counties League Division One, by 3-0. Baldock Town & Letchworth of the Hertfordshire Senior County League beat Milton United by the odd goal in three, despite a Ross Butler effort. Hook Norton were well beaten, conceding four times without reply, by Laverstock & Ford of the Sydenhams Wessex League. Shrivenham hammered Potton United of the Hereward Teamwear United Counties League, 5-1 courtesy of a Phil Corcoran brace, Shane Davis, Chris Cox and Tony Packer. Wantage Town overcame London Colney of the Spartan South Midlands League thanks to a hat-trick from Richard Claydon and one from Danny Keen.
Premier Division Round Up - Binfield gave Fairford Town a lesson in scoring, hitting the net half a dozen times courtesy of Ian and Carl Davies with two-a-piece, James Rogers and James Suarez. Pete Myall hit the consolation goal for the visitors. Bracknell Town hit three without reply against Wootton Bassett Town, thanks to Neil Hampson and a Sam Whiting pair. Carterton took the lead through Mark Threlfall but eventually succumbed to visitors Abingdon Town after Jefferson Harriott replied and then Jake Howard popped up with a couple more. Pegasus Juniors had a creditable win and got their first points of the season after beating Wokingham & Emmbrook by the odd goal in five. On target for Peggy were Mark Smith and Chris Mortlock with a brace and for the Satsumas, Adam Cornell and Shane Cooper-Clark. Reading Town and Witney United played out a goalless draw. Fancied Shortwood United could only draw with visitors, Flackwell Heath. Lee Thompson gave the Heathens an early lead but this was quickly cancelled by Jake Parrott’s reply.
Pegasus Juniors Reserves travelled to Bridge Street, Leominster where they played Leominster Town Reserves in the Premier Division of the Herefordshire Football League. They had a resounding 6-1 victory with a hat trick by Sam Preece, Ben Chambers, Cain Clark and Richard Harrison were the other goal scorers. September 6, 2010 PEGASUS JUNIORS NEWS Pegasus Juniors are once again at the forefront of progress in Herefordshire football when this weekend two teams from the club start their campaigns the Midland Junior Premier Football League (MJFPL). This league encompasses many counties and teams from several professional clubs. Pegasus Juniors are breaking new ground when two teams, Under 12's and 15's embark on a new adventure that offers the highest standard of youth football available to these teams before players go onto play at Academy Level. The MJPFL is described as the UK's number one junior and youth development league which is based in the Midlands and South West of England. MJPFL matches are played to a high standard, both in terms of the quality of competition and in our full commitment to adhere to the thorough criteria and codes of conduct. It's a great opportunity for local talent to perform in an environment which regularly attracts scouts from football league and Premiership clubs. It is essentially about developing players for the member clubs, the league has produced England under 16 representative players and dozens of former MJPFL players have signed contracts with professional clubs.
The under 15’s start their season with a game at Bedworth United. The other teams in this group are:- Archdales, Bilbrook Juniors, Brackley Town, Burton Albion, Leamington, Rugby Town, Stratford Town, Stourport Swifts, Stourbridge B, Stroud and Tividale. The under 12’s have a home fixture against JS Soccer International. The other teams in their group are Bath City, Clevedon Town, Gloucester City, Inkberrow, Longlevens, Newport County, Nunnery Wood and Warndon Village. The club wishes both teams a successful season and would like to thank sponsors for all their support".
Cheltenham Town FC have signed Pegasus youngsters Callum Craddock (left) and Zeke Vivian (right) to their academy side. Centre back and Pegasus captain Callum and goal-keeper Zeke have been signed on eighteen month contracts. Pegasus manger Stuart Jones said “this is a fantastic opportunity for both Callum and Zeke and is testament to their ability and to the hard work they have both put in over the past few years. I wish them all the best in the future and with a bit of luck they can go all the way. This means that Cheltenham have taken four players in two seasons from my side as they signed both my strikers last season. This is a great achievement for one side to get four players picked up by a league club. It does weaken us as a side loosing players of their ability but we will move on and rebuild again for next season. To me this is what coaching young lads is all about, pushing the good players onto the next level"

September 1, 2010 NORTH BUCKS LEAGUE NEWS FROM BRACKLEY SPORTS Deanshanger Athletic 2 Brackley Sports 7 NBDFL Premier Division - Tuesday August 24th - Match Report Nigel Jenkins Gavin Hansell equalled his record of six goals in a game as Sports were in seventh heaven away to Deanshanger on Tuesday evening. On a dull blustery evening Sports travelled with no less than seven first team regulars missing due to a combination of injuries and work commitments, allowing a number of reserves to stake their claim for a first team place. Captain for the night Nigel Jenkins won the toss and decided to play against the strong wind which turned out to be the start of a great night. On ten minutes Hansell closed down the defence and latched onto a loose ball and ran through to slide the ball beyond the advancing keeper. Sports controlled the game with good periods of flowing football seeing some great forward work by centre back Mark Mounsdon playing as a striker for the first time in his long career. On twenty-six minutes, Sports conceded a free kick just outside the area , which the Deanshanger captain duly scored with a slight deflection off the Sports wall to bring things level. It wasn’t long however before Hansell was played through for his and Sports second of the game on thirty-seven minutes to give them the slender lead at the break.
Sports kicked off the second half now playing with the wind and looked to have the bit between their teeth being rewarded early after a great move on fifty minutes by Graham Beckett and Danny Wait resulted in the ball being played across the six yard box for Hansell to completed his hat trick from close range. Sports now had control of the game the impressive back four of Dave Barnes, Jon Faulkner, Darren Sharpe and Marc Atkins controlling all Deanshanger had to throw at them. Sports pressure continued as Hansell collected the ball from Wait on the edge of the area and fired a great shot that was palmed into the net by the keeper to make it four on fifty-two minutes. Sports fifth goal came on sixty-five minutes after strong hold up play from Jenkins laid the ball to Mounsdon who played the pass of the match right over the defence to the on rushing Beckett for him to volley into the net at the far post. A lapse in concentration from Sports keeper Matt Georgou let Deanshanger pull one back on seventy-five minutes, however it was all Sports day as they added a sixth with undoubtably the move of the match seeing a four man display of one touch football on the edge of the area involving Beckett, Wait, Jenkins and Hansell resulting in Hansell firing in his fifth and Sports sixth nearly straight away. With the light fading, Hansell wrapped things up with his sixth and Sports seventh with a sublime volley from the edge of the area with minutes to go to round off a great game for Sports. The win moves Sports up to second on goal difference behind leaders Hale Leys United. Saturday sees them face another of the early front runners in Southcott RA, kick off 3pm.
Wicken Sports 3 Reserves 0 NBDFL Intermediate Division Wednesday August 25th - Report Nic Mullis Sports performance was as miserable as the weather as they crashed to defeat away to Wicken. Sports looked promising from the kick off going close only one minute after the starting whistle had blown, however, Wicken on the counter attack took the lead on three minutes, the Sports defence caught on the back foot the shot evading Sports keeper James Cox. Wicken did not ease up at this stage, the midfield continued to press the Sports defence and were rewarded again only seven minutes later. Sports spent the remainder of the half defending attack after attack well, making head way into thw Wicken half on several occasions only to lose the ball due to lack lustre passing. The score remained 2-0 until the break.
At the restart Sports had made some changes in the hope of altering the game, Matt Alcock being replaced by Steve Hirons on the wing but it was much of the same, Wicken were still hungry for the win and continued to play for it, Sports continually found themselves defending the goal, Sam Faulkner making the job look easy at times despite the pressure. Sports forward Adam Cooper began to show is hunger for keeping the team in the game and was involved in plays that could have resulted in Sports getting on the score sheet, David Mowatt and Andrew Jenner making some good plays forward in the midfield only for Cooper to be denied by the defence or some fine saves from the Wicken keeper, a further change was made on sixty minutes, Jaime Delvalle, who had had a somewhat quiet game being replaced by Justin Hayward who instantly got into the thick of things only to be overpowered again by the pace and fitness of the opposition, one final change saw Alex Hayward replace David Barnes in the defence. Wicken continued to pressure despite the fresh legs, with an attack resulting in a free kick just outside the area, Cox unfortunately not fully prepared for this saw the ball squirm under his body with Wicken sealing the deal with a 3-0 win.
Saturday sees Sports Reserves travel to Newport Pagnell to face MK Titans Reserves, kick off 3pm.
